Double Wall Corrugated Board

Double wall corrugated board has a similar construction to single wall board but has two fluting mediums instead of one, and three liners instead of two. This gives the board additional stacking strength and better puncture resistance. Double wall can still be die-cut, as with single wall, but case dimensions have to be larger to allow for the extra thickness in board.

The fluting size can be varied, depending on the application of the case. The most common type of double wall board is ‘BC’ flute which is approximately 6.2mm thick, with the thinner fluting on the outside of the case to allow for a better finish when printing. For an even better finish

we can give the outer liner a clay coating to give a glossy finish. When used with ‘EB’ double wall and a silkscreen print process we can achieve almost photo quality images.

Triple Wall Corrugated Board

[top]

Triple wall Corrugated, or Triple Wall as it is sometimes referred as, is a heavy-duty board manufactured from three fluting mediums and four liners. The strength of this board compared to its weight makes it an excellent material for the manufacture of heavy-duty cases for export purposes. We sell triple wall sheetboard from stock in sheet sizes of 2160 x 3500 for lining cases for export and other uses where strength is important, but weight needs to be kept to a minimum.

X-Ply

[top]

X-Ply corrugated board is unique in the way that the middle fluting is set at 90 degrees to the inner and outer fluting. This plywood style of manufacture means that it is very strong laterally as well as having great stacking strength. To give an example of the strength of this board, we have a hazardous carton available from stock with an internal size of 770mm x 570mm x 550mm which is licensed to carry up to 200kg in weight!

Channel 4 Book’s Stand

Examples of Packaging Produced By Mega-Pak Limited’s Design Team
We were approached by a company representing Channel 4 Books to design a point of sale display stand for a range of gardening books. The stand had to be self supporting, strong enough to take the weight of the books, easy to assemble and to be of an attractive design without taking the eye away from the product. Our solution, pictured on the left, included a small assembly instruction sheet produced by our design team to allow easy assembly by the shop assistant’s. We finished the display stand with a silkscreen printing process giving a simple yet high quality print finish.

Super Max

Super-Max who have developed the world's first triple bladed disposable razor, the Super-Max3, asked us to design a pack which would transport, display and dispense their product. The pack also had to be strong, durable and attractive to the eye. We chose to use an industry standard design with a modified front edge and an internal fitting which allows us to use ‘e’ flute board to reduce the weight of the pack, but keeping the overall structure strong. The ‘e’ flute also allowed us to use a lithographic laminating printing process to produce a high quality printed finish meeting our customers brief in full.

Die-Cut

The die-cutting process is a very accurate way of producing a carton or fitting. It allows us to stamp out an irregular shape from sheet board, much the same way as a pastry cutter is used. A cutting forme is made at a one off charge to the customer which will allow us to produce exactly the same shape, time and time again. Cutting forme’s will vary in cost depending on the size and style of the tool. Solid board, display board, corrugated and plastic can be cut using this process.

Fittings

A number of inner fittings can be manufactured by either die cutting or scoring directly off the corrugator. These fittings can be used to hold or partition products within a case. The following diagram shows some of the more common types of fittings. We would be happy to advise on the best fitting suitable for your product to give it the best protection it deserves.

Introducing our New Lasercombe FSP1613 Plotter & Sample maker

With an ever increasing demand on our design team for new and innovative packaging solutions we have decided to invest in the latest sample making and CAD design software.

The FSP1613 uses the latest technology to produce samples accurate to within 0.2mm up to a speed in excess of 100M/min. This also allows us to produce small production runs without the added cost of expensive tooling and setup charges.

We are able to produce samples for immediate despatch in corrugated fibreboard up to and including triple-wall as well as solidboard, correx and even acetate. With the addition of a laser pointer we are also able to produce small runs of high quality printed cartons using pre-printed board. This is the ideal solution for those companies wishing to produce promotional material for a limited number of customers.

If you feel that our new service may be of benefit to you and your company than please do not hesitate in contacting us to discuss your needs
